Sunday 20th May
Sunday 10th June
It was almost possible to enjoy the wine in the interval out in the garden at the last recital in April, but not quite.
We can hope that the lovely Spring evenings will allow this for our guests for this weekend’s May recital by pianist, Olga Paliy.
There are no more tickets available for the May recital, but we look forward to the June recital and early Summer, already nearly upon us, and to welcoming our friends in our regular audience and new music lovers alike.
The garden should be in full flower by then, as well as exuberantly in leaf, as it is now, reinforcing the intimate, very individual, salon nature of our recitals and providing a beautiful backdrop for those of our guests who stay on for candle light supper after the recital.
Our June recitalist, pianist Stephen Gutman, has chosen a theme, ‘Revisionings’:
Mozart transcribes his own violin Sonata. Tchaikovsky refashions a theme in six very different ways. Liszt reworks Berlioz. Debussy ‘revisions’ gamelan, the music of Andalucia and nursery rhymes in his glowing Estampes.
Mozart: 6 Variations on an Allegretto, KV54
Tchaikovsky: 6 Pieces on a theme, Op 21
Liszt: L’Idée fixe
Berlioz/Liszt: Un Bal from Symphonie Fantastique
It is with pleasure we welcome Stephen back to the salon scale of The Dysart Petersham recitals after a number of very well received, distinctive, stylish and thoughtful recitals here, in such a close relationship with the audience. We can look forward, not just to some inspiring music, but also to a wonderful performance, guided by a strong personality.
Stephen has performed in the Royal Festival Hall, the Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Weill Hall in New York, Ueno Bunka Keikan in Tokyo, and throughout Europe. Stephen’s enthusiasm for French keyboard music including the French Baroque led to his recording of the complete keyboard works of Rameau played on the modern piano for Toccata. The final CD received 5 stars in BBC Music Magazine and MusicWeb International chose it as their CD of the month.
His playing is also available on NMC and he has broadcast for BBC Radio 3, Deutsche Rundfunk and France Musique.
Some of the many composers who have written for him include Julian Anderson and Gabriel Jackson.
He has performed with many distinguished artists and ensembles including soprano Sarah Leonard, violinist Gyorgy Pauk, the Composers Ensemble, Endymion, the Esbjerg Ensemble, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group and the Verbier Festival Ensemble.
Stephen has given masterclasses in the UK and internationally. He has led courses at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Royal Northern College, Benslow Music Trust and Dartington Summer School. His contribution to a new book on the music of Simon Holt was published in the autumn.
