Our classical recitals take place on the first Sunday of each month.
A “stage” is created with seating arranged around the piano for an intimate and personal atmosphere that is hard to find elsewhere. Some seats have a wonderfully close view of the keyboard, others look directly through the piano at the performer. Invariably, if performers play here once, they want to come back, partly because of the respect and gratitude they receive from our regular and appreciative audience, partly because they appreciate the freedom and boldness of repertoire, partly because they recognise that here at The Dysart Petersham we have a rare quality – the solo and chamber music they play was often written for a salon scale just like ours – a comfortable and intimate place with a great acoustic, where it is easy to relax and listen, to enjoy the intensity of the relationship with the performer, or, for the performer, simply to enjoy playing for people they can actually see around them, encouraged to give of their heart and soul by the warmth from the audience.
We aim, across each series, to present a varied range of performers, ensembles and repertoire, last year introducing lieder and drawing on young musicians who are already performing as soloists and in chamber groups at international venues such as the Wigmore and Carnegie Halls.
Notable past and regular performers include Sir William Bennett, John Lenehan, Malcolm Messiter, Ivana Gavric, Sasha Grynyuk, Evelina Puzaite, Masayuki Tayama.
To add to the salon experience, wine is served in the interval and candlelight supper is available afterwards; our performers enjoy mingling with the diners.
