Ahmed Dickinson Cárdenas – Cuban Classical guitar

Ahmed Dickinson Cárdenas - Cuban Classical guitar

Ahmed Dickinson Cárdenas’ last performance at The Dysart was in June 2014, and was so popular we booked him to perform the same recital two weeks later. The forthcoming recital explores Ahmed’s beloved Cuban music alongside some classic repertoire for the guitar.

Eduardo Martín – Canciones de Calendario
Leo Brouwer – Paisaje Cubano con Campanas
–  La Muerte del angel
Jose Antonio Rojas – Guajira a mi madre
Francisco Tárrega – Capricho árabe
Isaac Albeniz – Asturias
Stanley Meyers – Cavatina
Antonio Lauro – Seis por derecho
Carlo Domeniconi – Koyumbaba

Lauded for his technical brilliance and sweet tone of phrase in combining traditional classical music with the rhythmic sounds of jazz, Ahmed Dickinson Cárdenas is redefining the landscape of classical music.

A performer of the Cuban Guitar School, the sophisticated virtuoso studied hard to gain one of the few places available at university to study music and received his big break into the industry upon his arrival in London in 2005.

Drawing inspiration and motivation from the world around him, Cárdenas says:

“Music is everywhere, sounds and noises and rhythms that float around are gathered by us humans and we give them the order we like. Music is what I am and do. I come from a society where sometimes you can decide quickly what you want to do in life. I reaffirm my existence every day by doing music.”
