Ivo Varbanov is a leading Bulgarian pianist, winemaker and cultural ambassador. After overcoming leukemia (2009–2012), he returned to the London stage, performing at the Royal Festival Hall, Kings Place, and Cadogan Hall. A recipient of the Ivan Vazov Award and the Silver Lion Award from Bulgaria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ivo became an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in 2019.
Ivo has performed with orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic, Sofia Philharmonic, Bulgarian National Symphony, Sofia Soloists, St Petersburg State Symphony, Tianjin Symphony, Orquestra Filarmônica de Minas Gerais, and Gdansk Philharmonic, under conductors such as Leif Segerstam, Emil Tabakov, and Muhai Tang.
His chamber music collaborations include performances with Fiammetta Tarli, Konstantin Lifschitz (two pianos, four hands), Ofer Falk (violin), Jitka Hosprová (viola), cellists László Fenyö, Seeli Toivio, Jozef Lupták, and Hillel Zori, the Allegri Quartet, and horn player Tanja Nisonen.
His discography features thirteen commercial recordings, including a critically acclaimed release of Dimitar Nenov’s Piano Concerto with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (Hyperion Records). Ivo has appeared at major venues such as Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, and the Bulgaria Concert Hall and performed in over 20 countries across three continents.
These February recitals will be a celebration of Ivo’s music and wine. On Sunday evening we will present the concert with canapés during the interval, followed by a dinner with dishes paired especially to Ivo’s wines. (A few seats are available for the concert only on Sunday as well.)
Monday evening will be concert only, with a glass of Ivo’s wine during the interval of the concert.
