THE DYSART PETERSHAM SHOP FOR 2021

For a new year we have had a look at our shop afresh.

There are lots of good reasons for us to be thankful for our decision last year to create The Dysart Petersham Shop. We introduced it as being: ‘not just for lockdown, but for life after lockdown’ and all our experience since then confirms our intentions.

Its benefits, relevance and role have simply increased with each step in the stop/start cycle of this pandemic.

The original plan for it was for ‘something of The Dysart Petersham experience’ to be available to be enjoyed at home. This in turn led to our making our shop a little different, with a focus on items made by us and ingredients we used ourselves from our network of individual suppliers with whom we work because they put their all into what they do – the idea was and remains to put the relationships we have built up with them at your service through the shop as well as in the restaurant, lockdown, or not.

With that in mind we were pleased with the recognition in the pieces in Michelin (“Weekly changing 3 course menu parcel with recipes and ingredients. Collect on Saturday”) and Hot Dinners (“This family-run restaurant in Petersham prides itself on the quality of its supply chain and their online shop reflects that, offering a chance to stock up your larder with great cheese, fresh fruit and vegetables and wine. They also do great baked goods and a weekly changing recipe parcel.”) of what we are working to achieve.

We also planned to keep the shop small and as personal as the restaurant, with personal collections (at pre-agreed times to help with social distancing) and deliveries within an area defined by what we think enables personal relationships and preserves quality – we plan to continue this approach and have no plans to move to wider and anonymous deliveries where quality control by us would be lost the minute items left us.

Shop highlights for us over 2020 are:

  • Seeing and hearing the pleasure we have given our customers
  • the way the shop has kept us in touch with customers, even during lockdown
  • the contacts we have been able to maintain with our suppliers as a result, many of whom have been struggling during lockdown.

Favourite purchases

Without question, our weekly recipes and ingredients parcels, vegetable boxes and bakery. It’s a pleasure – to have regular customers for these – to see new customers each week and, very specially,  to hear from them how much they enjoyed the event of cooking and how delicious the meals are.

These items were a great hit over New Year, with our New Year’s Eve dinner recipes and ingredients.

The recipes and ingredients we have brought together for Valentine’s Day dinner, and the wines chosen for them, will bring something special to that day, even though lockdown continues and we will enjoy not just the creation of the recipes and choice of wines, but also assembling the parcels and feedback.

THE DYSART PETERSHAM SHOP FOR 2021

This is why none of our original ambition for the shop will change for 2021, but simply evolve naturally to reflect the wishes and preferences of our customers.

A word of reassurance on what departure from the EU means for the shop

A big change for the Nation, not a significant change for the shop and restaurant.

We have over years sought out and found almost all we want from within the UK and we were already pleased to be able to add even more wines from in this Country.

Leaving the EU has highlighted how few items, other than wines, there are where we feel we have to go outside GB because they are the best, be it parmesan, or pasta.

More from our farmers

We have added a range of meats from our wonderful organic farmers in the West Country, with more to follow..

Collections and deliveries

Because of our emphasis on freshness, recipes parcels, bakery and vegetable boxes are made ready for Saturday each week.

In order to give some extra flexibility to customers, we have introduced collection and delivery of some other items by arrangement direct with Barny during the current lockdown.

We look forward to working with customers and suppliers on the shop during 2021.
